There have been theories that Chapman was set up to do this by the CIA by brainwashing. I can't verify whether this is true or not, but it does remain a possibility. John was a powerful figure in the anti-war camp and had a lot of influence. It could be that the powers that be wanted him out of the way because he might interfere with their future plans for more wars... (Y!A member)
